Local church communicators, district communicators invited SEJ Communicators Conference

24 scholarships available, two per district

LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C. —This month, United Methodist local church communicators, district communicators and others from across the jurisdiction will gather at Lake Junaluska, N.C., for a conference geared toward their unique needs.

Set for March 25-27, the Southeastern Jurisdiction Communicators Conference is organized by S.C. Conference Communications Director Matt Brodie, who is also the president of the SEJ communicators group.

If you are a church communications chair, a communications staff member, a district communicator or anyone who works in communications in any way in the church, then this conference is for you, Brodie said.

The design team has crafted a three-day event featuring workshops, roundtables, fellowship and more to help local communicators understand key issues and gain new skills to enable them to do more for the Lord in their communication ministry.

The price is intentionally low: cost of $175 includes lodging, meals and the conference registration fee.

Reimbursement scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with two given per district courtesy of the S.C. Communications Committee. Those interested in a scholarship should first register for the conference, then contact for your district superintendent s office to apply for the scholarship (for contact information, see www.umcsc.org and click on the Directories tab, then District Offices).

The last day of the conference is also the first day of Lake Junaluska s Peace Conference, so Lake Junaluska has agreed to waive the registration fee for that event if someone is attending the communicators conference.

Also, communicators conference attendees will be given a complimentary visit to the Biltmore Estate, courtesy of Biltmore.

Workshops include social media, photography, brochures and bulletins, communicating about mission, branding, graphics and more. Brodie will lead a workshop on promotional videos on a budget, and Advocate Editor Jessica Connor will lead a workshop on writing and submitting press releases.

The SEJ Communicators workshop gives local church communicators a chance not only to learn new skills and learn some new tricks, but also to experience a great time of fellowship and networking with other local church communicators to learn what s working and not in local churches from around the jurisdiction, said Brodie, who urged anyone who works in local or district church communication to attend.
