Restored: Retreat to help men learn new ways to be whole in Jesus

By Jessica Brodie

LEXINGTON—What do classic cars and men in South Carolina have in common?

The ability to be restored to full, functional and optimally working “machines,” able to do all that their creator intends and more.

But while cars can only be restored to a certain point, men have the advantage. For in Christ, men can become entirely new creations, not only restored but renewed, refreshed and revitalized, all for the glory of God.

That is the message of a conference-wide United Methodist Men’s spiritual weekend, set for Feb. 28-29 at Mount Horeb United Methodist Church.

With the theme “Restored,” the weekend will feature Gospel-driven preacher Dr. Eric Mason, author, teacher and founder of Epiphany Fellowship in Philadelphia.

Mason has written “Manhood Restored: How the Gospel Makes Men Whole,” which he will speak on throughout the retreat. His other books include “Woke Church: An Urgent Call for Christians in America to Confront Racism and Injustice,” “Unleashed: Being Conformed to the Image of Christ” and “Beat God to the Punch: Because Jesus Demands Your Life.”

The weekend begins Friday with a men’s ministry golf tournament at Indian River Golf Course, then continues that evening 6-8 p.m. with the Mount Horeb Men inviting all South Carolina United Methodist Men to an oyster roast. Saturday features music, testimony, teaching and breakout sessions. The car show will begin during registration and end after lunch. Winners will be announced in the afternoon session.

“We’re really hoping we can get all 12 districts to participate in the golf tournament this year, and Dr. Eric Mason is an excellent speaker,” said Marvin Horton, president of South Carolina United Methodist Men. “It’s important that we get men together to understand the role we play. For too long men have been asleep, and women have stepped up on our behalf, but it’s time we got to work in the church, too.”

Registration for the retreat is $65 (early bird), for the golf tournament is $60, for the oyster roast is $20 and for the restored car show is $10. Become a 2020 Sponsor Church for $600

and support Men ‘n Ministry in South Carolina, be recognized in all men’s event promotion and get 12 free registrations; 2019 and 2020 sponsor churches will receive two additional registrations, for a total of 14.
