The Advocate newspaper has won three more journalism excellence awards this year, these latest from the South Carolina Press Association.
This bring the newspaper’s total to 118 awards for journalism excellence in the last decade from groups such as the SCPA, the United Methodist Association of Communicators and the Religion Communicators Council.
In an online presentation for its Associate & Individual Member Awards division, the Advocate was honored by the SCPA with second place in overall Newspaper Publication. Advocate Editor Jessica Brodie also won first place for her feature photo for “Trail of Hope” (June 2019 Advocate) and second place in Column Writing for her piece, “The Tattooed Evangelist” (June 2019 Advocate).
These awards were to have been announced in the spring. However, because of COVID-19, the S.C. Press Association made the decision to move its in-person conference and award celebration to a virtual meeting.
