Call for input: Is your church doing Hispanic ministry?

Is your church doing any sort of Hispanic ministry? The South Carolina Conference’s new Hispanic/Latino Task Force wants to know.

The task force is actively seeking information about which United Methodist churches in the state are currently doing Hispanic ministry, whether any ministry plans are in the works, which churches have Hispanic or Spanish-speaking members, which pastors speak Spanish or are Hispanic, etc.

They also want to know whether there are any churches or pastors interested in starting Hispanic ministries.

Deadline for information is May 1.

The task force exists to raise awareness, advocate and be in ministry with Hispanic and Latino brothers and sisters in Christ. Task force members have said there are an estimated 241,000 Hispanic people in South Carolina, and South Carolina is number two in the nation in terms of growth for the Hispanic population, yet the most recent Journal reports only a little more than 300 Hispanic members of South Carolina UMCs. The task force hopes to help grow that number.
