Asbury Hills offers first Coastal Camp at Sea Islands
This summer, Asbury Hills Camps & Retreat Ministries offered its very first Coastal Camp at Sea Islands.
Organizers said it was an incredible week.
Summer Camp Director Ann Marie White got to experience firsthand the excitement of a new camp.
“It was a unique experience that combined many traditions of Asbury Hills with new experiences of Sea Islands,” White said. “From the beach to the aquarium, a scenic island to a cypress swamp, from visiting the Angel Oak trees, boat excursions and, of course, camp along Bohicket Creek, campers had the freedom to decide where to explore and what to do. Watching the campers share their discoveries at every new location and enjoy hanging out together was a beautiful reminder of the creativeness of a child’s curiosity and imagination and of the God who designed each of us for his glory.”
The trip to the aquarium was a highlight, as campers got a behind-the-scenes educational tour. Organizers said one of the fantastic things about the new camp is the beautiful Mathews Creek, which is home to brown trout—one of the few places in the state where they are found. The South Carolina Aquarium comes to the camp to study the fish and take some of the brown trout to the aquarium.
The educators at the aquarium reminded campers how the bodies of water are all connected from the rivers and creeks of the Upstate to the rivers, streams and oceans of the South Carolina Lowcountry.
Organizers said overall, it was a wonderful week and they are looking forward to more in the future.
