Dawsey UMC houses CELECTS Education private school at church

FLORENCE—Dawsey United Methodist Church and CELECTS Education have joined together to create an opportunity for children in Florence, with the church opening its doors to serve as the host site for the school.

CELECTS Education is a private school located inside Dawsey UMC. Its focus is to meet the learning needs of each individual child. In addition to serving students without any assigned disability, CELECTS serve a number of students with autism and with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

When Dawsey was offered the opportunity to pair with CELECTS, they said they were excited at the opportunity to serve the community in such a way.

The 2024-2025 school year is the first year the school is inside Dawsey.

So far, Dawsey and CELECTS have held a rummage and crafts sale for the community. They have collected back-to-school donations and held a day of giving away school supplies with back bags. Parents and children came, selecting their own free bags and filling them with free school supplies.

Currently, they are collecting supplies to give to the homeless. Children, school staff and church members are asked to take a bag, fill it with goods and give to people who are homeless. Dawsey and CELECTS is also pairing to host a Trunk or Treat event to provide a safe place for the children in the neighborhood to enjoy Halloween.

Both Dawsey and CELECTS are learning a great deal from each other.
