ERTs help after Tropical Storm Debby
Fallen trees from Tropical Storm Debby have kept disaster response volunteers busy this month.
Billy Robinson, coordinator of the South Carolina United Methodist Volunteers in Mission’s Early Response Team, said volunteers have responded to five calls for help ranging from Orangeburg County to Bamberg County to Dorchester County.
“It’s mainly been cutting trees off of homes and tarping damaged roofs,” Robinson said. “We also supplied fans and blowers for Canaan United Methodist Church in Ridgeville that had some flood waters come inside. They also had several caskets pop up out of the ground due to flood waters and are having to wait for the waters to go down to take care of the cemetery situation.”
