Men to gather Feb. 24 for annual Men N Ministry retreat

COLUMBIA—Organizers are gearing up for a 2024 Men N Ministry spiritual retreat at a new location.

Set for Saturday, Feb. 24, at Journey Church, a United Methodist church on Longreen Parkway, the event will be held all day beginning with registration at 7:30 a.m. It concludes at 2 p.m.

There will also be a golf tournament the day prior, Feb. 23, as well as a Friday evening small group opportunity.

This year’s theme is “Act Like a Man,” drawing from 1 Corinthians 13:11. Several speakers will show men how to become better husbands, fathers, brothers, uncles and overall Christians. Speakers will include Dr. Percival Reeves of Sanctuary Church, Charlotte; Dr. Rosario Picardo of Mosaic Church, Beavercreek, Ohio; the Rev. Trevor Miller of Mount Horeb Church, Lexington, and the Rev. Steve Brown, superintendent of the Marion District of the South Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church.

“With our new venue, Journey Church, we are excited to see how God will work in the lives of the men of South Carolina,” said Kenny Bingham, new president of the South Carolina Men N Ministry. “Pastor George Ashford and the men of Journey Church are helping make this a very exciting event.”

Men of all faiths in South Carolina are invited and encouraged to attend.

Registration is $65, with an early bird rate of $50 before Feb. 1.

Bingham encourages last year’s sponsors to become sponsors again this year. Sponsorships are $600 and get 12 free tickets for men in their church. Last year’s sponsor churches get two additional tickets free.

Local church sponsors cost $300 and get six free tickets for men in their church. (Last year’s local sponsors get one additional ticket free.)

“We encourage every man to plan to attend this event because we know you will be blessed,” Bingham added.

Ready for some golf?

The 2024 South Carolina Men N Ministry Golf Tournament will be held Feb. 23 at The Spur at Northwoods, Columbia.

Cost is $80 per player, with practice balls before rounds start. First-place trophies will be awarded at the tournament’s end with a meal provided.

Mulligans are $5 each with a limit of two per player.

The golf tournament is organized in tandem with the men’s retreat, set for Feb. 24 at Journey Church in Columbia. On Friday night, Journey will host a group discussion, “Cigars and Scriptures,” with shrimp and grits around a firepit from 5-8:30 p.m. led by Ty Williams of Journey.
