Men to gather for three teaching churches in August

South Carolina men are invited to three Teaching Churches events this month presented by the South Carolina United Methodist Men. All are welcome, no matter their geographical area.

The first, “Unconditional Love,” is set for Saturday, Aug. 15, at St. Mark United Methodist Church, Taylors. Held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event aims to help men love God, self and others through hope and a call to action. Four dynamic and diverse speakers will present.

The second, “STOP: An Effort to Stop Human Trafficking,” is set for Saturday, Aug. 29, at Belin Memorial UMC, Murrells Inlet. Held from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the event will feature local elected officials, law enforcement, theologians and representatives from the U.S. Senate. Attendees will learn what they can do to put an end to what organizers call “this modern-day form of slavery.” Attendees are asked to bring toiletries/personal items to help support Sea Haven, a residential home for homeless teenagers, in Little River.

And the third, “Awaken the Warrior,” is set for Saturday, Aug. 29, at Grace UMC, North Augusta, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Held in the Wesley Center Auditorium, the event will draw from Romans 13:11-14.

Two other UMMen Teaching Churches are also slated for the fall: “In Search of the David Within You” is set for Sept. 17-19 at Stewart Chapel UMC, Huger.

And “Going Above and Beyond the Familiar” is set for Saturday, Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Journey UMC, Columbia, featuring wisdom on leadership, worship, growth and funding your dreams.
