Reconciling Ministries to host ‘The Welcome Table’ evening of worship and dinner
COLUMBIA—Clergy and laity interested in learning more about Reconciling Ministries Network and exploring a way toward an inclusive United Methodist Church are invited to “The Welcome Table,” an evening of worship and dinner on Tuesday, Oct. 24.
Hosted by Reconciling Ministries of South Carolina-Midlands, the event will be held at Washington Street United Methodist Church, 1401 Washington St., in downtown Columbia. The gathering will begin at 6:30 p.m.; dinner and the program follow at 7 p.m.
Attendees will hear stories and testimonies about the damage being done by current policies of the UMC and about the life-saving roles reconciling communities and congregations play.
Reconciling Ministries Network envisions a renewed and vibrant Wesleyan movement that is biblically and theologically centered. As committed disciples of Jesus Christ, the Reconciling Ministries Network strives to transform the world by living out the Gospel’s teachings of grace, love, justice and inclusion for all of God’s children.
“I hear from many clergy and laity, particularly those 40 and younger, who don’t feel ‘safe’ to attend the breakfast RMSC sponsors every year at Annual Conference out of fear of who might see them there,” said Jim Lane, RMSC chair. “Those persons know the importance of inclusion in the UMC, and it is my sincere hope that many of them will be able to attend ‘The Welcome Table,’ where we sit together, in love, for inclusion.”
