Stir the flame: UMW to hold 40th annual meeting this month

ROCK HILL – United Methodist Women from every district in South Carolina will head to St. John’s United Methodist Church, Rock Hill, this month for their 40th annual meeting.

With a rousing theme of “Stir the Flame,” the Oct. 26-27 meeting will feature dynamic young campus minister the Rev. Narcie Jeter as its keynote speaker.


Jeter will be joined by the Rev. Sheila Elliott, senior pastor of the York-St. James Charge in the Rock Hill District, who will lead Bible study for the hundreds of women expected at the meeting.


A host of workshops, mission opportunities and fellowship times will round out the meeting, which also includes business sessions to elect officers and do other needed business of the group.


Registration starts at 3 p.m. on Oct. 26. Dinner is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by worship, Holy Communion and then workshops. An afterglow fellowship to mark their 40 years will cap the evening.


Saturday continues with Bible study, general business, lunch and then final business, with the last session ending at 3 p.m.


All are welcome to attend. Registration is required. Cost is $25 if registering by Oct. 12 ($35 after).



About Jeter


Narcie McClendon Jeter is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and a member of the S.C. Annual Conference.


On July 1, Jeter became the executive director and campus pastor at Gator Wesley, the United Methodist Campus Ministry at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla. Prior to that, she served as the campus minister at the Winthrop University Wesley Foundation. She previously served as the campus minister and director of Clairmont Religious Life at Emory University.


As an alumnae of Winthrop University, Jeter graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and minors in education and social sciences. She continued her studies at Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, Ga., where she graduated with a Master of Divinity in 2005.


Jeter has served in a variety of capacities on campus, in the conference and in the connection as the chair of the campus ministry association at Winthrop, the co-chair of the United Methodist Campus Ministry Association, on the Rock Hill District Committee on Ministry and as the vice chair of Conference Connectional Ministries.


Jeter and her husband, Mike, have two children, Enoch and Evy. She enjoys spending time with students, building relationships, putting faith in action and trying to “keep it real.” Her passions are missions, outreach and community building.
