- Come Follow Me: Seven UMCSC pastors pen discipleship sermon series for local churches Church leaders are rolling out a free new resource this month to help foster discipleship in the local church. Called “Come Follow Me,” it is a seven-part sermon series with adult discussion guide that follows the life of Peter and his development as one who said “yes” when Jesus said, “Come follow me.” It will be released March 15.

- Save the Lake Junaluska Bridge project to restore historic structure The Lake Junaluska bridge has served as a vehicular route and pedestrian walkway for more than 100 years. In 2016, the bridge was closed to vehicular traffic due to deterioration of the bridge’s steel support beams. Now, the Board of Trustees voted to restore the bridge to vehicular and pedestrian traffic, a project estimated to cost more than $1 million.

Now I start each day by offering my tithe of time, just like I tithe my money. He gets my “first fruits.” It doesn’t matter what else the day holds; He comes first. - Christianity and the Olympics: UMCSC college senior in Korea studying religion and the Games By Jessica Brodie. One South Carolina United Methodist college senior is in South Korea this week exploring how Christian outreach is impacting the Olympic Games. Madeline Mulkey, a senior at the University of South Carolina, is spending 10 days (Feb. 7-17) at the Games to research the religious atmosphere of the Olympics and the various Christian groups that travel from around the world to be in ministry there. “People a lot of times perceive the Olympics as a secular event, but God is definitely working within the Games and the athletes and the people there; it’s just not a story that often gets told,” Mulkey said.
- Advocate offers college 2018-2019 scholarship for student at UM college The South Carolina United Methodist Advocate invites applications for a $1,000 scholarship for United Methodist students who are planning to enroll or are already enrolled at one of the four United Methodist colleges in South Carolina: Claflin University, Columbia College, Spartanburg Methodist College or Wofford College. With an average of 50 members in worship each Sunday, it still manages to host a thriving soup kitchen for the entire community each Thursday throughout the winter, plus for the past 10 years, it has offered a warm place to stay for homeless men.
