From the Vault

Deep within the vault lie stories few know ...

For more than 25 years, Dr. Phillip Stone has been immersed in the history of Methodism, surrounded by sagas of the people who slowly, painstakingly helped grow the church from a fledgling rural outpost into the major Christian mission-focused entity it is today. As archivist for Wofford College and the South Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church since 1999, Dr. Stone has delved through the letters, photographs, and stories that paint a picture of God’s church through the work of the “People Called Methodists” in South Carolina.

“These stories get to the very heart of our experiences as Methodists in South Carolina,” Dr. Stone writes in his introduction.

Here, he invites you into the fascinating world of the people, places, and institutions that make up the great history of South Carolina United Methodism.
